 Stuffed Peppers with Lentils in Tomato Sauce 

Hungarian stuffed peppers with lentils, rice and tomato sauce served with boiled potatoes


If you're looking for a vegetarian dish that's filling and delicious, stuffed peppers with lentils are the perfect choice. Ingredients for the Peppers:

8 large stuffed peppers

150g lentils

150g rice

2 medium onions

3 garlic cloves

1 egg

Salt, black pepper, marjoram, and red pepper to taste


Ingredients for the Tomato Sauce:

1 medium onion

A drizzle of olive oil

2 tsp tomato paste

1 garlic clove

500g tomato puree

Salt, black pepper

2 tbsp sugar (optional)


Preparation Instructions:

Prepare the filling: Parboil the rice, then boil the lentils until tender. Once cooled, mix it with the spices, chopped onion, and garlic. Add the egg and mix well.


Pepper Stuffing

Wash the peppers, remove the seeds, and clean the insides. Stuff them with the lentil and rice filling.


Preparing the Tomato Sauce

Sauté the onion in olive oil, then add the tomato paste and garlic. Add the tomato paste and a little water, then season with salt, pepper, and sugar.


Place the stuffed peppers in the sauce and simmer over low heat for 35-40 minutes.


Serve the dish with freshly boiled, salted potatoes. 🥔
